Forget safe, neat, boring sandwiches. The American way is to stuff the tastiest, crunchiest, sauciest fillings you can think of in-between anything that resembles bread.

Nothing is out of bounds. From battered seafood to Asian flavours. Paired with classic sides, every bite tastes like liberty.

Is it Burger or Sandwich?

Expect a blank look if you’re in the States and ask for a chicken burger ‘cause they ain’t got a clue what the hell you’re talking about. We might both speak English but we speak a different language, if you know what I mean.

Don’t start jumping up and down and throwing a hissy saying they’re wrong and I’m right rubbish. It’s just what we call burgers, Americans call sandwiches. Unless it’s minced beef, then we’re on the same page.

Anyway, moving on. That’s why we’ve called some of these recipes sandwiches when they clearly look like burgers. This is authentic Americana after all. Let’s leave it at that!

This recipe is about getting the basics right! Grind your own meat if you can, use quality produce and don't fuss with too many ingredients, except don’t forget to use the best mayo of course! Simple but delicious burgers are the holy grail of Americana. Do them right and watch them sell by the truckload!

This is crispy chicken, Japanese style, doing the tango with smashed avocado, a la Americana, for a cross culture flavour trend.
