As awareness grows of the impact humans have on the environment, everything from food miles – the distance a product travels and the resources required to get it there – to ethical considerations around waste and the humane treatment of animals is in the frame.
And it has given rise to the mindful consumer, an emerging class of people who are shifting the way they think about the products they consume and the brands
Nowhere is this more evident than the food sector, where consumers are paying close attention to sustainability and transparency. When asked about this rising movement, Adam Shaw, head chef of Pins on Lurline in Katoomba, says his diners are more engaged in their food choices than ever before.
“People are actively asking is it free range and is it environmentally friendly,” he says. “They want to know: have the animals been treated well? And they want to know what they’re getting isn’t from some mass-produced farm.”
For a long time now, Hellmann’s has been committed to sustainable farming, responsible business and doing right by the people who help us make Hellmann’s.
Our commitment to free range makes a huge difference to the quality of life for literally millions of hens. Hellmann’s has made this choice as an investment in a sustainable future, supporting chefs who wish to produce dishes that meet the expectations of socially engaged diners.
“As a chef, I follow a lot of social issues,” says Shravan Gautam of Charboys Burgers in Brisbane. “I personally believe free-range eggs is the way to go. I mean, if we support more free-range products, it’s ethically better. If we publicly support free-range eggs then it will create a higher standard.”
Hellmann’s also proudly supports Australian farmers by only using 100% Australian canola oil in our Real and Aioli products. Being low in cholesterol and with a neutral taste profile, homegrown canola oil is the ideal choice for a premium mayonnaise.
As the old saying goes, you get out what you put in.
And when you’re committed to ethical farming, premium ingredients and an authentic recipe, you create something real. That’s why we reckon Hellmann’s Real is mayonnaise as it should be.
